Water is one of the most important elements of sustainable community design in Southwest Florida.  At Babcock Ranch, we’ve set a new standard for watershed protection by restoring wetlands, protecting flow-ways through the community and creating a storm water system that copies nature.  Filter marshes, just like natural wetlands, clean the water and recharge the system.  They function like giant sponges to slow the flow of surface water and reduce impacts downstream.  At Babcock Ranch, we’re also leading the way in water conservation with systems for harvesting rainwater, re-use of treated water for community irrigation and our native landscaping program that relies on plants that don’t need to be watered.  The result – a healthier habitat for the hundreds of species that share our community.
