The Shared Vision
The permanent preservation of approximately 73,000 acres (81 percent) of Babcock Ranch served as the foundation for the shared vision that drew multiple parties together in pursuit of an historic accomplishment. It’s a goal that could not have been achieved without significant commitment and support from the State of Florida, Kitson & Partners and the leaders and citizens of Charlotte and Lee counties.
Babcock Ranch is a rare treasure. It’s a place where you can take a step back in time and experience Florida in its natural state. A place where native vegetation continues to support abundant wildlife, including listed species. This vast stretch of cypress domes, swamps, mesic flatwoods and open pastures did not survive the ravages of time by accident. Much of what you see there today is the result of diligent effort by a family committed to responsible land management.
The Babcock family wanted that tradition of stewardship to continue, and Kitson & Partners is honored to have been selected to help shape the future of Babcock Ranch.
The community’s vision for this property was clear. State and local leaders, environmentalists and the citizens of Charlotte and Lee counties wanted to permanently preserve as much of the property as possible.
We shared that vision, and are very proud of our role in making that vision a reality.
The sale of approximately 73,000 acres of Babcock Ranch for permanent preservation was the result of unprecedented collaboration between private business, environmental organizations, community leaders and public servants. Together, we have achieved what many believed simply could not be done.
